About the event

With this ceremonial plant initiation you will be guided on a sensory journey  into the world of local seasonal, wild herbs of the woodlands in Northumberland and their stories.

We will make a woodland chai - the Northumberland version of the traditional Indian milky chai, with seasonal roots, seeds, berries, barks and flowers wildcrafted from the local land.

You will learn about their medicine, edible uses, folklore & magical uses as well as how to use them in your cooking. You will also have the opportunity to make your own chai blend with the wildcrafted herbs to take home.

This month’s full moon is the last Super Moon of the year. It falls at a time when summer has ripened fully and in the colours, smells & shapes of the plants one can sense the energy of the approaching autumn. It is a perfect time for deeper & intentional somatic connection with the local land. And what better way to do this than with the help of the local seeds, nuts, berries, fruits & roots which can aid us into an easeful seasonal transition and teach us about reciprocal relationships.

The themes we will work with are as follows:

  • Re-wilding the human body, mind & spirit
  • Sustainability
  • Anchoring the body and the psyche within the local land, its plant beings and their medicine
  • Connection to oneself & community
  • Harnessing the power of our own “roots”
  • Grounding and reclaiming inner strength and resilience
  • Fostering right relations to the more than human world.

What to expect on the day:

  • Deeply relaxing somatic exercises to soothe the nervous system and help us arrive in the space
  • Woodland Chai Ceremony
  • Plant-lore, stories of the land, an opportunity to share your own stories and immerse yourself in the imaginal world
  • Sound journey through somatic singing, drumming and the trance inducing sounds of a shruti box
  • Sharing Circle
  • Herbal leaflets to take home with more info about the plants and how to use them
  • Vegan, GF & refined sugar-free snacks made with wildcrafted ingredients
  • Make your own woodland chai blend and or herbal oil to take home (bring empty & clean jars for the herbal oils)
  • Wholesome & nourishing time with a friendly community of people, plants & mythical archetypes
