About the event

Nuns Moor Park is a little gem in the West End of Newcastle. This wonderful green space is actually a home to a variety of wild edible and medicinal plants. This time of the year the community orchard is bursting with abundant raspberries, the herbs have started seeding and their edible seeds are potent, full of flavour & medicine. They can be incorporated in such creative and fun ways in our cooking, adding the taste of the wilderness to our meals and the medicinal properties of the local herbs, which keep us healthy and connected to the land.

Nuns Moor Park is very dear to me. I lived right next to it for 7 years and have witnessed the cycles of its wonderful inhabitants numerous times. The wonderful plants there have gifted me with  food, medicine, wonder and healing in abundance throughout the different seasons and years.

This is why I would like to introduce you to this Urban Wilderness in the heart of Arthur's Hill and invite you into a deep somatic connection to your local land, your natural cycles & your wild organic self.

What to Expect:

  • Sensory exploration of the less walked parts of the park ( we will stay away from the main paths)
  • Foraging for berries, wild seeds, edible flowers and if we are lucky - nuts too
  • Sharing Plant-lore, the Magical  & Medicinal properties of the plant beings we encounter
  • Wild Cooking & Picnic time - Brewing Tea with the foraged herbs & making Sugar-free Raspberry spread/jam  (Please bring  your bottles of water for washing herbs, making tea and jam)
  • Included will be Wholesome,Home Made, Vegan, Gluten-Free & Sugar-Free treats
  • Herbal Guide to Sustainable Foraging to take home with more detailed info about  the herbs we collect and how to use them
  • Tea Ceremony
  • Sharing Circle (often these circles include oracle or tarot cards)
  • Closing the Space with a Flower Mandala - we will collectively create a plant mandala to offer to the land as thanks for letting us forage there

Connection to the wilder ones and to our own wild, free, creative nature doesn’t have to be an activity which takes us outside of the city, away from our own neighbourhoods and communities. Nature is everywhere, co-existing with our human creations in the cities too. Right here in the green spaces in Newcastle the wilderness is calling our attention always and providing opportunities for connection with the more than human world, for nurturing wellness within human, plant and beast alike and for remembering right relations.
